Skeleton Screens Beat Spinners

A spinner says "wait." A skeleton screen — the grey placeholder shapes of incoming content — says "almost there."

Research from LinkedIn and others found skeletons reduce perceived wait time because the brain starts processing layout before content arrives. The page feels faster even when it isn't.

The bite: Never show a blank page with a spinner if you can show the shape of what's coming. Perceived performance is performance.
